Bring the picnic indoors - all year long! This is one of my favorite local spots to eat, shop, sit and drink. City Provisions is fresh, sustainable and all local. This is a type of place you could be at all day starting with coffee, a goat's milk honey latte or bloody mary (!), a scrumptious homemade donut or alike, reading the paper. After an hour or so you might get hungry again and order breakfast (side note: Sunday brunch is FAB...Cornmeal crusted chicken fried steak with maple gravy, two eggs and served with duck fat home fries OR sarsaparilla six stout chocolate & cream cheese french toast casserole with fresh whipped cream. Heaven.) After breakfast, you should meet the awesome owner and chef, Cleetus Friedman, who also loves rap music. Fitting isn't it? For lunch, you can order anything from the delicatessen including sandwiches, charcuterie, deviled eggs, salads, etc. Cap off your afternoon with a glass of wine, sparkling, beer on tap, beer in the bottle, whatever you prefer. They have an awesome selection of beers, gins, vodkas, whiskeys, etc. At this point it might be time for you to go home or maybe go to the gym.
And when the weather is nice, grab a blanket, basket and head to City Provisions for all your picnic needs. The lake is about a mile east, Lincoln Square (Welles Park) about 3/4 miles west or Winnemac Park about 3/4 mile north. Perfecto.
